Give me a definition, what are presentational devices

Layout Layout is the order in which text and images are organised. Layout could be the use of boarders and windows. It could be sectioning of different articles as seen in newspapers. Layout also describes the use of features such as bullet points, lists, headers and footers.

Font Font is really important in presentation and can be as powerful as images and design. Font describes the style, design and size of words used.

Images Images are a very powerful presentational tool. A single image can tell a detailed story. Images can come in the form of: illustration, computer aided design, photos, charts and graphs to name only a few.

Language Language is the content of the words use and how the words are used. The content is the actual information, what is being written about. Also this describes the way it is written: sentence structure, formal and informal.

Design Design is the visual content on the whole the ‘aesthetics’, how it looks. Design would include: Theme, colour, shape, images, font, layout.

Font & Image

Genre and audience These are very important factors in influencing our use of presentational devices
