Federalism for Somalia: The Best Hope for Rebuilding the Nation Author Mohamed Iman Abdulle
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES: The main objective of the study was to examine the role of a federal system for Somalia in rebuilding the nation. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: The study employed qualitative methods of data collection, and primary and secondary sources were used. The study conducted one FGD and three KIIs in two major cities (Garowe and Mogadishu) each to represent the other states.
RESEARCH FINDINGS: The study found that most of the respondents agree that federalism is a conflict resolution mechanism: the most important constitutional concept and design which enables the legitimacy of political power to integrate and enhance the fragmented society. But federalism still remains a temporary solution for Somalia as the country will need to reshape itself and its future for the best system that fits the country.
