Communication I hope you can approach me if you have any concerns or comments about your child’s time in school. Please use the home school diaries as the first approach to communication. Letters will be sent home via email, please make sure your email is up to date.

Literacy Literacy is a big part of the curriculum. We are using Active Literacy throughout the school. Spelling – Children will be given set words each week. If they wish to do extra practise they can take these home. Handwriting – forming letters is so important! We will been doing weekly handwriting. Writing focus on writing skills across genre. Peer and Self evaluation to encourage self checking and editing. Reading –comprehension skills, not just fluency. Reading homework will be set weekly. Reading for enjoyment should be encouraged. Word Aware – developing awareness of vocabulary.

Numeracy Mental Maths – constant revision with daily Maths Blast and Big Maths Beat That Vocabulary in maths – it is important to develop this and understand word problems. (Maths Word of the Week) Numeracy and maths skills will be taught in focused lessons and children will be given the opportunity to apply these in different contexts.

Homework Thank you for your feedback and responses to last year’s homework grid. Activity grid was positively received by the majority of children and adults. (74.2% of children and 80% of adult preferred the activity and skills grid) The ideas can be used as a starter… the world is your oyster! If you need advice on challenge or support in areas of the curriculum please ask. Reading homework will be sent home, please encourage children to read books of their choice too. Talking homework may be set and will be recorded in Homework diaries, this will often relate to writing lessons.
