Nation vs. State vs. Country Self-governing political entity Otherwise known as a country (Think of the United States – Each State eg. The State of Florida has its own government)

Nation vs. State vs. Country Single race or geographical area Tightly knit group of people that share a common culture Culturally homogeneous group of people who share a common language, institutions, religion, history (Think – FIRST NATIONS)

Nation vs. State vs. Country Nation-State: A nation which has the same borders as a State A nation of people which have a State or country of their own

Nationalism vs. Patriotism Devotion to the interests or culture of one's nation. The belief that nations will benefit from acting independently rather than collectively Emphasis on national rather than international goals. Patriotism: Love of and devotion to one's country

Nationalism vs. Patriotism “Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first; nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first.” What might be meant be the above quote? What problems could this lead to?

Nationalism vs. Patriotism How can nationalism or patriotism benefit a country or the leader of a country? How might they specifically help or hinder the rule of the Tudor’s?
