TRANSFORMATIONS Translations Reflections Rotations

Transformations – changes position of a point or figure on coordinate plane.

Translations – Every point in a figure moves the same distance within a plane. Also called a slide.

Reflections – produces a mirror image of a figure by flipping it over the x-axis, the y-axis, or a line. Also called a flip.

Rotations – turns a figure around a point. Also called a turn Rotations – turns a figure around a point. Also called a turn. (counterclockwise)

Translation rule – right 2, up 4 x + 2, y + 4

Reflection Rule: over x (x, -y) over y (-x, y) over y=x (y, x)

Rotation Rule 90ᵒ (-y, x) 180ᵒ (-x, -y) 270ᵒ (y, -x)
