Introduction to gender stereotypes S1 Lesson Introduction to gender stereotypes

Boy / girl word association In your groups: Write down words you associate with girls on one piece of paper Write down words you associate with boys on another piece of paper

Boy / girl word association In your groups, discuss: Does one of your pieces of paper have more positive or negative words than the other? Look at the sheet of paper that represents your gender. Are the words an accurate representation of you? Why?

Worksheet Gender stereotypes are assumptions about people based on their gender. These assumptions might be about: someone’s personality or interests; how well they will do at a task how they are likely to behave; the types of jobs they are likely to do.

Worksheet: quiz Working on your own: Look at the six gender stereotypes shown on the worksheet Indicate whether you think each is true or false

Worksheet: discussion In your groups, discuss: Can you think of any real-life examples that support or challenge the statements on your worksheets? Has anyone ever treated you differently because they assumed these statements are true?

Video

Video: Additional scenes In your groups: Plan four additional scenes for a new video called ‘Like a Girl’ or ‘Like a Boy’
