Kindergarten is a wonderful time in a child’s life Kindergarten is a wonderful time in a child’s life. Not only are they learning the foundations of education, but they are also learning the foundations for life. With that said, it is expected that the students will Show up ready to learn Be respectful to their peers, teachers, and school environment Use only kind words and always play fair Listen and follow all directions When our whole class is showing outstanding behavior, the class will receive a handful of gems into our gem jar. Once we work together as a class to fill the jar, we will receive a class prize. If a particular student or students are showing outstanding behavior, he/she will receive a ticket for their ticket bag. Once a month a student receives an opportunity to spend their tickets at the ticket prize store.

Each night your student will bring home a clear folder. I have labeled one pocket “keep at home”, papers found in this pocket are for you and your family to keep and enjoy as you please. The other pocket is labeled “bring back to school”, in this pocket you will find forms that are required to be signed and returned. This pocket will also hold your child’s nightly homework assignments. Every morning when the students arrive they are expected to move their lunch clip, hang up the belongings, and bring their clear folder to their desks for me to check.

One average your child will 3 items of homework per night Monday through Thursday: One Math sheet One Language Arts sheet 10 minutes a night of reading with someone at home and log the time on their reading logs. Homework is a special time for you to share with your child! Please help your child complete their homework each night. Please remind your child to keep their homework sheet(s) in their daily folder.

Please send in a note if your child will not be taking the bus.

Lunch Please review the lunch menu options with your child, so they know what is available for them to order for lunch. A letter has gone home in your child’s folder explaining how to view their lunch transactions.

If your child is sick please call the “sick line” to report their absences and send in a doctor’s note. If you are aware that your child will be missing school for any reason, please send a note and I will try my best to prepare them for their absence.

Birthdays? To celebrate a student’s birthday, you may send in a special treat with your child, in the morning, for the class to enjoy during snack time. If your child’s birthday falls during the Summer you may send in a treat with them on their half birthday, in September or in June; just please send me an email to let me know when.

If you would rather send me an email please feel free! Any questions? Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I will do my best to answer them. If I cannot answer them myself I will find you someone who can. If you would rather send me an email please feel free! Alger@mckeown.org
