Frederick Schiller Faust Max Brand Frederick Schiller Faust

Frederick Schiller Faust (May 29, 1892 – May 12, 1944) was an American author known primarily for his thoughtful and literary Westerns under the pen name Max Brand

His Life His parents both died when he was young He worked as a cowhand in central California During college, he wrote for several magazines and journals Faust joined the Canadian army, but deserted a year later to move to New York He married and had three children

His Work Life After working for several European magazines, Faust moved to Hollywood and wrote screenplays for television shows He became one of the highest paid writers of his day, earning in a week what the average person earned in a year

During WWII, Faust was a war correspondent, doing his best to support the US in the war Faust died in 1944 as the US invaded Italy; he was a war correspondent and was mortally wounded by shrapnel He was commended by President Roosevelt for his work

His Literary Work Faust wrote over 200 novels, and as many short stories He could write up to 12,000 words in a weekend His work is still published today, and an average of one work per week is printed somewhere in the world He used several pseudonyms, and wrote in many genres
