30-Second Paragraph Purpose: to identify main ideas Method: Display a graph, table, diagram – something visual. Give students 30 seconds to study the graph without writing anything. Remove the graph. Give students 30 seconds to jot down observations, i.e. What do you notice? Ask students to share their observations with a partner, i.e. What did they both notice? Ask each pair to share one observation. Have students write a summary of the main ideas.
