Entrapment

What is Entrapment? When a police officer, or any agent of the government, lures a defendant into committing a crime. Under the law, if the defendant would not have committed the crime, except for the government’s enticement, then the defendant is not guilty. If the defendant already had the idea of the crime in mind and an officer only made it possible to commit the crime.

Bell Ringer 10/02/2013 What was the Abscam Operation? Why did the entrapment defense fail? What were the main reasons the case held up against the entrapment defense?

Who was John DeLorean? What was the basis of his case? Did the Entrapment case hold up in court? Why?

Jacobson v. U.S. What was the basis of the case? What did the government do? Why did the case not hold up in the Supreme Court?

Who was Hemant Lakhani? What was the case against him? Did the Entrapment defense work? Why?
