Newborn Babes 1 Peter 2:1-2

Clean Up Work God is holy and demands His children to be holy (1 Peter 1:14-16) “Putting aside” (“laying aside,” KJV; “rid your selves” HCSB). Meaning “to put off from oneself” - - like removing a garment (v. 1)

All malice (wickedness). Badness in quality All malice (wickedness). Badness in quality. . . the vicious character generally. Malignity Guile. Literally “to catch with bait.” To decoy, use craft, deceit, subtlety Hypocrisies. Feigning to be what we are not; cloaking a wicked purpose under the appearance of piety Envies. Hatred of others on account of some excellence they have, or something which they possess which we do not Evil speaking. Speaking against others. Rendered else- where as backbiting. Unkind & slanderous speaking These actions are to be eliminated. One who is born again puts these away (cf. Eph. 4:22-24; Col. 3:5-10)

Spiritual Desire Singular appetite (v. 2) “Pure” = unadulterated Hunger and thirsting (Matt. 5:6); craving Babies need little prompting, neither should we! “Pure” = unadulterated God’s word is pure (Psa. 12:6-7) It is man who perverts (distorts) (Gal. 1:7) “Man shall not live by bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4)

How Is It? Is the Lord gracious (v. 3)? Cf. Ephesians 2:7-8) If something is good, you want it again; the good taste excites the appetite Romans 6:23 - - a gift of grace, a gift involving grace”
