Why did Marco Polo go to China? To bring back valuable trade goods like silk cloth, tea, spices, gun powder, paper money, and coal.

What were the effects of Marco Polo’s travels? New ideas, new skills, new customs ** the want to know more about other countries

What is the definition of the Silk Road? A network of land and sea routes for trading

Where did the Silk Road go? Connected Asia and Europe

Why did Zheng He travel? To expand Chinese Trade To show Chinese Power

What were the results of Zheng He’s travels? The demand for Chinese trade goods grew

What were the effects of trading? New goods like coal, paper money, new skills, new ideas, new knowledge about other cultures

What directions did most of the trade routes go? East and South

What is Ghana’s nickname? Land of gold

What did Ghana trade? Gold for salt

What did Mali trade? Gold for salt Animal hides, gold and kola nuts for European goods like cloth, horses, and other goods

Who was Mansa Musa and why was he important? He was a Muslim who went on a pilgrimage to Mecca and strengthened trade ties between Mali and other Muslim nations. He was important because Mali reached its peak as trading empire during his rule.

What did Songhai control? More land than Ghana and Mali

Where was the Vikings home? Where did the Vikings travel? Their home was called Scandinavia. They traveled to Newfoundland, Canada.

Why did the Vikings return home to Scandinavia? Conflict broke out between the Vikings and the Native Americans

Where did the Portuguese explore? The African shore

What were the effects of the Portuguese exploring the African coast? They mapped the African coast, reported sailing conditions, brought back gold, and profited from the slave trade

Why was the Renaissance important? We had new art, new learning, new inventions like the printing press, new ship designs, and new ship building techniques
