SCIENCE LAB Room 53 - Mrs. Moore 4th Grade Meet the Teacher! 1st Grade 2nd Grade Meet the Teacher! First Grade students will be studying sound and light. Students will learn that sound comes from vibrations and they will conduct experiments with musical instruments to explore volume and pitch. Students will also experiment with different materials to see what will block light and what materials will allow light to shine through. Second graders will begin an earth science unit. Students will learn to describe rocks by using their observable properties, as well as distinguish uses for different types of rocks (pebbles, gravel, sand, silt, and clay.) Don’t be surprised if your child suddenly wants to start a rock collection! Hello Guy Families! My name is Mrs. Moore and I have been a teacher at Guy Elementary for 15 years. I’m so excited to be teaching your child science this year. Check out what your child’s grade level will be learning for the next few weeks! 3rd Grade Third grade students will be starting a unit called “Water and Climate”. Students will learn about the processes of evaporation and condensation, as well as observe cloud formations and weather patterns. They will also learn about different climate regions around the world. 4th Grade 5th Grade Things are going to get creepy and crawly for our fourth graders! They will be observing and investigating various animals such as mealworms, pill bugs, goldfish, and brine to discover the structures and functions these animals have that help them to grow and survive in their environments. Also, students will learn the role of various organisms in the food chain. The fifth grade students will be starting a science unit focusing on Living Systems. Students will examine ecosystems and describe food chains and food webs. Students will learn the roles of produces (plants and algae), as well as consumers and decomposers (such as redworms).
