GDWG Notable Actions GDWG Fact Sheet Big problem in GDWG: limited resources at the level of agency/WG GDWG activities: not adequately supported by CGMS agencies 2-page GDWG fact sheet: developed at GSICS-EP-18 to emphasize the benefits of GDWG for EACH AGENCY Who are the members of GDWG? Why invest in the work done by GDWG? Emphasizing the importance of GDWG activities by showing GDWG achievements such as GSICS Collaboration Server, Products’ Convention to follow WMO filenaming and netCDF CF Convention Asking each agency to provide resources for GDWG collaborative activities Collaboration Server service improvements; GSICS product mirror and new product notification and distribution.

Updates of GDWG ToR

Q: Who are the members of the GDWG? A: Data Management Experts from participating satellite operators collaborating to advise, recommend and specify Data Management systems to support the activities of the GSICS working groups. Q: Who should invest in the GDWG? A: Agencies with requirements to integrate and characterize observations from a constellation of satellite sensors Investing in the work done by the GDWG means: GSICS inter-calibration products follow agreements and common solutions between all members facilitating interoperability, and ease of use, while exploiting data management systems in their implementation. These deliverables will facilitate open free access to inter-calibration information in common formats from different satellite agencies Benefitting all satellite agencies and users by enabling improved integration of satellite data in applications.

Q: Who should invest in the GDWG? (cont.) The following works done by GDWG have been realised: GSICS collaboration servers network Provides a vehicle for GSICS products’ developers to exchange their inter-calibration products and for user access. Guidelines/Conventions/Standards Facilitates easy use of GSICS products WMO file naming Convention for GSICS products’ filenames: Immediately provide information to the user of the file about its content NetCDF: Existing free tools are available for GSICS data exchange/access Climate Forecast (CF) Convention: Meta-data in GSICS products provides support information how to use the contents GSICS Products Plotting Tool Used by satellite/user agencies to monitor instrument performance w.r.t. GSICS reference instruments (e.g. IASI, AIRS and CrIS for IR products)

Q: What further investment is needed to support Capacity Building? A: Participating satellite agencies in GSICS collaboration effort needs further invest in GDWG activities by: Providing Data Management Expert(s) to contribute to GDWG tasks Providing resources to Support the development of GDWG recommendations and specifications Develop tools for GSICS activities Operate and enhance the GSICS systems that have been realised This investment ensures your agency is engaged in developing the critical building block of: Monitoring the performance of multiple satellite instruments Access to sensor-to-sensor adjustment corrections enabling the development of multi-sensor integrated products and applications
