SAFEGUARDING Our Responsibility To keep your child safe We have a duty of care to your child, and have put procedures and policies in place to make sure this happens It is a requirement of England Hockey that all clubs hold the Clubs First Award, which lasts for three years, our last being awarded in May 2016. To achieve this award, Bradford Hockey Club has had to demonstrate that all the necessary procedures and policies are in place, and are implemented

SAFEGUARDING Concerns If you have any concerns about aspects of safeguarding, either regarding individual coaches or officials, or concerns about the policies and procedures used (or not used) in the club, please contact the Welfare Officer on the number on the front of the Junior Handbook.

For both drop off and pick up, please only use the outer car park Accompany your child to the pitch and ensure that they register Let us know if someone else is taking your child home Let us know if there is a medical condition eg injury, that we need to keep an eye on

SAFEty procedures Pick up Please use the outer car park The inner car park will be blocked off from 8.30 pm onwards Cars will not be allowed to move out of this area until all children have left the pitch Children U14 and below must be collected, whether they have an older sibling or not. U16 will be allowed to go and meet their parents in the car park once we are aware that they are there

General Data Protection Regulations GDPR General Data Protection Regulations Came into force on 25 May 2018 In principle this means that Bradford Hockey Club have to inform all members, officials and others who provide their personal details (eg, dates of birth, telephone numbers, medical information) to the Club about how this information will be used, accessed and stored.

Personal information will be: GDPR Personal information will be: Used to facilitate your child’s participation in relation to activities relating to BHC Only passed on to agencies directly involved in the facilitation and management of BHC Only kept as long as your child remains involved with BHC Kept securely and only transferred to coaches and officials through secure networks

GDPR Membership Forms We require all Senior players and parents of juniors to complete a new membership form, which will be available after the presentation. We should not hold your details or contact you about club activities without your agreement to our new terms. The membership form will be scanned and kept electronically in a secure location and access to your information will only be given to club officials who are assigned to your child’s age group, or have responsibility for some aspect of your child’s participation, eg Treasurer re subs.

The cost of membership for the SEASON is £180 FINANCE The cost of membership for the SEASON is £180 This includes: All training sessions (including any additional training sessions/senior sessions that they may attend) All match fees (BHC has to pay a fee to enter every competition and league) After match teas for the player when playing in development or senior league matches If a player participates for the whole of the season (Sept-Mar), then the full cost of membership is payable … out of convenience we allow you to pay this in 12 instalments, if the player withdraws in May, the full fee for the season is still payable.

FINANCE Family discount First player (most senior) – full fee Second player (next most senior) – 75% Third player – 50% Fourth and subsequent player – 25% Family discount does not apply to Pay and Play players

REPRESENTATIVE HOCKEY PLAYER PATHWAY From the age of approximately 12, your child may have the opportunity to attend Player Pathway sessions Which could ultimately lead to representing your area, the North and potentially your country In recent years Bradford has been very successful in our junior players going all the way to play for England at the Sainsburys School Games, which is no mean feat for such a small club. More information is available from your coach.

SENIOR HOCKEY What happens when your child goes into Senior Teams The usual first step is our Development Team, which is a bridge between junior and senior hockey. Longer games, but not as high intensity (usually!)

SENIOR HOCKEY What happens when your child goes into Senior Teams Ladies 1st XI – play in Yorkshire Div 4 North Mens’ 3rd XI – play in Yorkshire Div 5 North Mens’ 2nd XI – recently promoted to Yorkshire Div 3 Mens’ 1st XI – play in the Yorkshire Premier Div

SENIOR HOCKEY What happens when your child goes into Senior Teams Things to be aware of: These are adult teams, and parents need to be aware of the environment that their son or daughter will be joining. We can police our own players, but we do cannot guarantee the behaviour of the opposition towards junior players

SENIOR HOCKEY How do we identify when a junior player is ready to progress Assessment includes: Skill levels Ability to play against ‘physical’ teams Emotional maturity Physical strength

SENIOR HOCKEY Social aspects of Senior Hockey All teams provide post-match teas for their player visitors (unfortunately this does not include parents, siblings, etc who come to support) In Bradford’s case, teas will be provided in the Students Union building at Bradford University We would recommend that junior players participate in this, as it helps to integrate them into the team

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ACHIEVEMENT Senior Dinner – Junior Presentation There is an event held each year for both seniors and juniors to acknowledge the effort that they have put in, and reward outstanding achievement. The date is announce before Christmas .. Please make sure it is in your diary 2019 is a special year for BHC as we are 125 years old … these events in 2019 will mark this occasion

And finally …. Plea for help! We are always looking for volunteers to assist with the organisation of not just the Junior Club but the wider club. In relation to the Junior Club, a number of us no longer have juniors in the club, so we would like to hand over to others who can bring energy to the Club.
