VMET-Verification of Military Experience and Training-DD Form 2586 Element 3

QUESTION If you had to explain what VMET is to your CO in less then two sentences, how would you do that?

VMET is utilized by the member to verify their military experience and training. It is used to translate your military terminology and training into civilian terms and establish capabilities with prospective employers.

What about College and vocational Institutes It lists military job experience and training history, recommended college credit information, certification and licensure, and civilian equivalent job titles. The Veterans Office at the majority of colleges will work with the Registrar to award college credit. Some of the most common are PE credits for bootcamp.

How do you get to your VMET? Members can electronically download and print their VMET document from the VMET website using the DMDC website. They must have a current DoD CAC, DS log on credentials, or have a current DFAS “myPay” PIN.

This is the date that information was last updated from the member’s service. There is usually a 3-6 month lag time behind the current date.

I think I have errors on my VMET document. Some things are missing  I think I have errors on my VMET document. Some things are missing. Others I didn't complete are included. Are these actual errors in my record in the VMET database? Information you expect to see might be missing, even though it exists in the VMET database. Information you don't expect, such as training or skills that you did not complete, may appear on your VMET document. In these cases, do not request a correction to your record. Simply disregard this information when developing your resume. Missing Training-Some trainings you completed might not appear in your VMET document because your Service did not report them. The VMET database receives course completion information only from each Service's automated electronic data feed Incorrect Occupations or Jobs-Occupations included in your VMET document come from your Service's automated systems. They may not reflect what you actually did or what is listed in your annual evaluations.

Question Are VMET documents delivered by the Internet considered official documents, even if they are unsigned?

Yes. The VMET Document, Delivered Over The Internet, Is Considered An Official Document Even Though It Is Unsigned

The INSTRUCTIONS The Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET) program was established by Public Law 101-510, Section 1143(a), 5 November 1990, National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1991. DoD Instruction 1332.36 dated 14 February 1994 states that, ideally, Service members receive their VMET document (DD-2586) at least 120 days before their separation date. Since January 2001, the VMET document has been available to all DoD military members with active, reserve or National Guard Service on or after 1 October 1990. Before January 2001 the military Services printed and distributed VMET documents to all separating or retiring active duty Service members
