Presentation transcript:

Chapter 15-3: Muscular System -the organ system whose primary function is movement and flexibility. -to help you move, it is attached to bones. -make up of all the body’s involuntary and voluntary muscles

Lever: -a simple machine that consists of a bar that pivots at a fixed point called a fulcrum.

Extensor: -muscle that straightens part of your body. Flexor: -muscle that bends part of your body.

Mechanical advantage: A number (#) that tells you how many times (x) a machine multiplies (Xs) force.

Cardiac muscle: -muscle that is found only in your heart. Smooth muscle: -muscle that can be found in the wall of blood vessels and in the digestive tract.

Tendinitis: -tendon b/ms inflamed. Strain: -an injury in which a muscle is overstretched or torn

**During resistance exercise people work against weight (wt). Aerobic Exercise: -moderately intense activity that improves endurance.

Cardiovascular System: -includes the blood vessels, blood, and heart. Urinary System: -takes waste out of the blood.

Ligaments: stretchy tissue that connects bones. Differentiated cells: Ex) muscle cells, neurons, red blood cells, and epithelial cells, etc.

Digestive System: -stomach, -small intestine, -colon
