Formation of the Earth and Oceans

Density Stratification The process by which matter became layered according to density during Earth’s formation Heavier matter near the center and lighter material closer to the outside

Atmosphere Formation Earth cooled, crust solidified, gases released by volcanic activity accumulated Earth’s Atmosphere… Water vapor, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen

Origin of the Ocean As the Earth cooled, water accumulated forming bodies of water Eventually, the oceans created atmospheric changes required for terrestrial life to form

Earth’s Structure Draw and label a diagram of the structure of the Earth (make sure the layers are proportional) Color each layer a different color Label the width of each layer (or the distance of each layer from the Earth’s surface) Write a description of each layer
