Cooking up Civilizations! Ingredients to make a delicious Civilization!

A type of society that has a large population, farming, cities, writing, religion, gov’t, jobs, and buildings.

Ingredient One: SETTLEMENT A permanent community where people live

Ingredient Two: FOOD SURPLUS When a society is able to create more food than it needs, which allows it to specialize into new jobs and activities. This food supply MUST BE STABLE and not at risk of disappearing due to weather or other changes.

Ingredient Three: SPECIALIZATION OF LABOR

Ingredient Four: SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS Centers where people meet to discuss certain things in society like schools, government buildings, etc.

Ingredient Five: SOCIAL HEIRARCHY
