Dashboards and OLAP services in LLL and distance learning processes Experiences about log-based learning- and education-management October 25–29. 2017 HASSACC 2017 Human And Social Sciences at the Common Conference www.hassacc.com

HASSACC 2017, October 25–29. 2017 Introduction (focused keywords) A cybernetic education (e-learning) framework needs logs and their real time analyses for system maintenance and personal decisions parallelly. Log-data will never be used in raw form: dashboards and/or OLAP-services (incl. Data-visualization effects) make the quick understanding of their situation, position, exposure, etc. possible for users (especially to other objects in form of benchmarking results) Optimized dashboards can not be derived in a standard planning process. User’s behavior patterns (=logs) are necessary to be capable of fine-tuning. OLAP-services are such a complex phenomena, that quasi each affected person should be educated (=logs) to use it in an efficient way. www.hassacc.com

HASSACC 2017, October 25–29. 2017 Introduction: out of focus (here and now) How to optimize data-visualization effects (like Rosling-animations)? How to optimize models/analyses (like Occam’s razor)? How to optimize OLAP-services before using by professional users)? … www.hassacc.com

HASSACC 2017, October 25–29. 2017 Methods Similarity analyses for optimizing dashboard services Checking normativity in the planning Supporting calculation of the best price/performance ratio Without any subjectivity Available as online service (based on C-URL) Automatable Consistence-oriented (with self-checking routines) OLAP – as standard technique for data handling Frequently used OLAP-parameter sets lead to dashboards Using OLAP services need a high level of abstraction capacity by users Hermeneutics of planned reports should be given in advance Control views are necessary for avoiding errors The users should want to see and should be able to accept/tolerate comparisons www.hassacc.com

HASSACC 2017, October 25–29. 2017 Results Objective evaluation of dashboards (other arbitrary objects) is possible and it can be executed in an automated way: Based on similarity analyses Based on logs Based on trivial directions of attributes LLL needs learning materials about OLAP services for developers, maintaining experts, students: Cybernetic society should be capable of using logs in an efficient way Persons should tolerate benchmarking at least anonymized The more efficiently users utilize OLAP services, the more logs will become necessary for crowds www.hassacc.com

HASSACC 2017, October 25–29. 2017 Discussion Dashboards are able to support processes, if real decisions will be made – arbitrary constellation stops intuition processes. The use of OLAP services can become a kind of positive addiction (reports almost always generate new questions). The misunderstanding of OLAP-reports and/or dashboards is a social risk in the cybernetic society. Hermeneutics (text-based interpretations) for OLAP reports should be integrated into the services in advance. Hermeneutics needs consistence control reports too, where a few parallel reports ensure the validity of interpretations. www.hassacc.com
