Study this so we can play quizzes. Ancient Rome surrounded the Mediterranean sea. Ancient Rome began on the Tiber river. Ancient Rome began small but got large by conquest. The Italian peninsula is shaped like a boot and is covered the Apennine mountains. The Ancient Roman empire would include: Egypt, Greece, and Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia means land between two rivers. Ancient Greece was also located on a peninsula.
