The purpose of a works cited page is: To demonstrate the validity of your information To give credit for information and ideas that are not your own To provide resources for the reader to study further

Works Cited Entry Basics Book Author (Last name, first name). Title. Publisher town: Publisher, Publication year. Media. Magazine or periodical Author (Last, first.) “Article Title.” Magazine/Periodical Title. Volume.number (Publication date): Page numbers. Media. Hint: When there is no author name given, use the next item as the first part of your entry. Usually, this will be the title of the work you are citing.

In-Text Citations Identifies which information came from a source rather than from the author. Point the reader to the appropriate entry in the works cited page. To be of use, they must clearly indicate only one possible entry. Generally, in-text citations are made up of the author’s name and, if available, the page number where the information was found. Alternatives are used only when the above identifiers are unavailable.
