CREATE word art Bellringer: current grammar and grammar review Students will read their AR books for 10 minutes. The teacher will guide students in defining their vocabulary words. Students will work on finishing their speech analysis project. Students will create word art to represent their vocabulary words.

Students will work individually to read an article about the Holocaust, identify the central idea, and summarize the article.

How to find the central idea What is being said about the person, thing, or idea (the topic)? Usually, the main idea will be stated somewhere in the first paragraph of an article or the last paragraph of an article. Also look at the title to see if it provides you with any hints. Look for repeated words, phrases, ideas, or information. Author's use evidence to support their central idea. Think of a central idea like a thesis statement.

What to look for when looking for the central idea? ___Does the title tell me anything about the central idea? ___Does the 1st paragraph tell me anything about the central idea? ___Does the last paragraph tell me anything about the central idea? ___Is there something the author keeps mentioning? Does it relate back to the central idea?

How can I write a summary for non-fiction texts? Look for information that you see repeated in the passage. This information belows in the summary. Find your what, who, when, where, why, and how. Answering these questions will help you to write your summary.

Students will complete I-Ready. The teacher will conference with students and work on skills during I-Ready.
