Characteristics of Living Things Unit 1

Biology is the study of life. People who do study life are called biologists!

For something to be living it needs to have 8 things

1. Living things are made up of cells

2. Living things reproduce (have babies)

3. Living things are based on a universal genetic code (DNA)

4. Living things grow and develop

5. Living things metabolize (get energy and use energy)

6. Living things respond to a stimulus (their environment)

7. Living things have homeostasis (stable internal environment)

8. As a group, living things evolve (change over time)
