A “Well-Rounded” Christian (2 Peter 1:5-11) “Be Diligent…” Speaker: Bill Hall Faith Virtue Knowledge Self - Control Perseverance Godliness Brotherly Kindness Love A “Well-Rounded” Christian (2 Peter 1:5-11)

We have observed qualities that are to be added to our faith The “spirit” with which we add them is equally important

We add them with “diligence” vv. 5-10 Notice the word “abound” v. 8 “Diligence” = an all-out effort (the opposite of being “half-hearted”) Timothy was a “diligent” young person “Well spoken of by the brethren” Acts 16:2 Later praised by Paul Phil 2:19-22

We add them with “diligence” vv. 5-10 Young people will have hindrances to overcome if they are to be “diligent” Over-involved in other interests 2 Tim 2:3-4 Peer pressure Poor role models Phil 2:21

We add them with “urgency” vv. 12-15 Why urgent? vv. 8-11 Consequences if we fail to add them cp. 2 Cor 4:17-18 Heb 10:26-31 Blessings if we add them cp. Gal 5:22-23

We add them with “confidence” vv. 16-21 Peter assures us our faith is well placed We’ve not followed “cunningly devised fables” Peter himself is an eyewitness…sure testimony The prophetic word is confirmed Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit

Conclusion God has been good to us He gave us His Son so we might be saved and live with Him in eternity Let us not neglect our service to Him “Be Diligent!”
