Common Core Connection Objectives: Today I will be able to: Design an experiment using the scientific method Construct a method to determine how to make the largest bubble. Informal Assessment – monitoring student interactions and questions as they complete the bubble lab Formal assessment – analyzing student responses to the bubble lab and the exit ticket Common Core Connection Value evidence Use appropriate tools strategically

Lesson Sequence Evaluate: Warm-Up Engage/Explore: Bubble Lab Evaluate: Exit Ticket

Warm-Up Find your assigned seat! What is one fun thing you did this summer? What is chemistry? What is one thing you want to learn about chemistry? What is one thing that you want to know about me?

Who is Mr. Klotz??

Objective: Today I will be able to: Design an experiment using the scientific method Construct a method to determine how to make the largest bubble.

Agenda: Warm – Up Bubble Lab Exit Ticket

Scientific Method Exploration Bubble Lab Scientific Method Exploration

Brainstorm What are the steps to the scientific method?

You will design an experiment to determine how to make the largest bubble What are some important things to think about when designing an experiment?

Bubble Lab Lab safety- be responsible in the lab No aprons, goggles or closed toe shoes are necessary Share the different wands Get into lab groups based on your row Discuss experimental design Make sure you have a control group Complete the lab and questions

Bubble Lab Discussion What problem is this experiment investigating? What was tested? What was your control? What did your data show? What are some sources of error in this lab? How could you minimize the error? What could have caused the inconsistent results? Was your hypothesis correct or incorrect? Why?

Exit Ticket: Explain how the bubble lab uses all the steps of the scientific method.
