The Roots of Emotion

Fundamental Emotions First theorized by Darwin as emotions that are evolutionarily adaptive Anywhere from 6-10 Certain facial expressions are constant across cultures. These same expressions emerge very early in children (1-2 months) Blind people make and understand these expressions

Facial Feedback Hypothesis Emotions result from the physical feedback of how our muscles, particularly those in our face, are acting. Proprioception: feedback about body states If we get someone to make a facial expression, will they feel that emotion?

The simulation heuristic Emotions tend to be stronger if we can imagine a scenario where we would not have been rewarded/punished.
