Child to read individually common words on their word board. 3. Child to lift out a word from bag and read it out loud. Other children to check their word cards and see if any of their common words matches the word read out. 4. Pass the bag to the next child who lifts out the next word and reads it aloud to the other children in the group. Children to check to see if they have a matching word. 5. Repeat until one child has a complete word card. 6. When child has matched all of their words they call out, ‘BINGO!’ Child who calls out, ‘BINGO’ is the winner. LEAP 2009 - 2011 England

How to play: The participants form three xxxxxx lines, each line stands for one class. The first class multiply up to 20, the second up to 50, the third up to 100. All of the students are in the first class. The teacher throws a ball to one child, asks the student to multiply and the student’s task is to say the result, e.g. 2×4. If the student gives a correct answer, he is promoted to the next class. However, if they do not know the result, they remain in the current class. The students who are the best are awarded with medals – „Master of mulitplication table”. LEAP 2009 - 2011 Poland

How to play: Each card consists of several words grouped around pictures. Children must read each word and fix a peg in a special place near the word. After finishing the whole card it must be turned around to check if the choices were correct. If the peg is fixed beside the marked arrow it was a wrong choice. These Peg-Reading-Cards can contain syllable games, words, sentences and even little texts. Germany LEAP 2009 - 2011

How to play: Each team gets from the Wise Rabbit yellow circles with the numbers 34 and 78 and many red petals with different mathematical operations written on them. Each pupil from each team must choose the right petal so that he/she gets the result written in the circle. The children in each team stick the petals in order to get a flower. As you progress, you can cancel the numbers that you’ve already used. When the multiplier gets to number 1, the operation is over. Let’s try this multiplication 35 x 16: You double the number to be multiplied half of the multiplier 35 X 16 70 X 8 140 X 4 280 X 2 560 X 1 560 is the product of 35 x 16 If during the procedure you encounter an odd number in the multiplier, you should become part of a new list. Teach different moves for a different multiplication. For example, 3x is a punch. 3. The teacher calls out a multiplication sentence, such as 4x5=. 4. Children have to do the martial art movement before saying the answer. 5. This game can also be played with a number called out and children find factors (with movements) of that number. How to play: Students form two rows, they stand face to face. One of them performs a role of a character from a book, he goes through ”the tunnel of thoughts” and his friends express their emotions, what do they feel and what this character should do in such a situation. At the end of „ the tunnel of thoughts” the student shares his/her emotions with his/her friends and talks about what he/she felt. This method is useful because helps to name students’ emotions and feelings. The teacher controls the situation and helps his/her students to develop their communication skills. You need every animal in two colours. Then you give the same animal to students which are on an equal level. When every student has an animal, you draw two goals on the board and put the football in the middle of the playing field. After that, you ask a mathematical question. A little bit later, you say an animal. The two children with this animal have to solve the question. The one, who answers first, gets the point. That means you have to look for the colour for example green and give the green team a goal. The team, which gets 10 goals is the winner. LEAP 2009 - 2011 Germany

The leader of the group starts the game saying a word- for example cat. The children who have the cards with the letters c, a and t come in front of the classroom standing with the cards in their hands in a line in order to make up the word cat. They have to say another word using the letters which haven’t been used so far, for example- horse. Then they are out of game. The game continues until there are not letters left or it is impossible to make up words using the letters which have left. The teacher can make 2 or 3 cards for vowels and the most LEAP 2009 - 2011 Romania

How to play: Write down the factors in the two diagonals above. We write the partial results in the boxes( the diagonal separates the tens from the units). You add the sum of the vertical columns. We perform this multilication: 376 x 85 We have not filled the whole table because the multiplier has only two digits and “combinations” are 6 and not 9.To multiply numbers with four or more digits it is necessary to have a table with more boxes. After reading couple minutes the teacher asks them to close their books and write all the words they remember from the passage. At the end, the student who writes correct and most words win the activity. LEAP 2009 - 2011 Turkey
