Main items discussed: Preparation for SES2014 - data collection / validation / publication - metadata update in ESS-MH II. Eurostat's data checks

I. SES 2014 - Data Collection (i) EU Regulation (530/1999) data transmission deadline 30 June 2016 -> Letters of non-compliance beyond this date! EDAMIS: Table A (EARNINGS_SESA_A4) Table B (EARNINGS_SESB_A4) Importance of respecting data transmission timeliness Publishing timely data + Release of EU aggregates Calculation of EU aggregates by September 2016 Draft news release in Autumn 2016

I. SES 2014 - Data Collection (ii) Expected microdata transmission to Eurostat

I. SES 2014 – Metadata update (i) Standardised structure of Quality Reporting in ESS Metadata Handler (ESS-MH); Replaces EMIS (Eurostat) and NRME (NSIs) as well as the "old" format of collecting Quality Reports (e-mail); Work done so far Autumn 2014: SES2010 QRs (pdf/word) mapped into ESQRS structure and imported in ESS-MH AT-CH-DE-FR translated into English, proofread by NSI Spring 2015: ESQRS files validated by NSIs + ESTAT, published on Eurostat website

I. SES 2014 – Metadata update (ii) https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/estat/spe/metaconv/home.htm Way forward (SES 2014) Create copy of SES2010 ESQRS file in ESS-MH Change "new" ESQRS file reference year to SES2014 Update contents of newly generated ESQRS file to reflect SES2014 metadata If inserting text or tables (copy-paste) from a separate word/excel file, use the button "Paste from …." Send the new file to ESTAT for validation and publication

II. EUROSTAT data checks (i) Data validation ‘Consistency checks’ to ensure that complete data is received on microdata records from each country ‘Plausibility checks’ on each variable to ensure that the data are reasonable and in line with other 2014 SES variables inconsistencies between hourly, monthly and annual data hours paid for part-time employees exceeding those for full time employees

II. EUROSTAT data checks (ii) Missing entries/values Especially for main classification variables: A12: Size of the enterprise to which the local unit belongs A13: Principal economic activity of the local unit (NACE Rev. 2) B23: Occupation in the reference month (ISCO-08)

II. EUROSTAT data checks (iii) Compare mean hourly earnings by NACE full time and part-time employees 2010 and 2014 Outliers Large number of cases where Log (gross hourly earnings) outside the interval: [µ - 4σ ; µ + 8σ] Hourly earnings below 1/50th of the average Hourly earnings more than 50 times higher than the average

The LAMAS delegates are invited to: Inform Eurostat by when their NSI is expecting to send SES2014 microdata to Eurostat; Inform of any problems which could result in any delay in the data transmission to Eurostat; Take note of Eurostat's additional validation checks; Take note of the instructions on how to update the Quality Reports for SES2014 in ESS-MH;

Thank you for your attention!
