Child and Youth Misbehaviour (Video Group Discussion) CMY2603 Child and Youth Misbehaviour (Video Group Discussion) Semester 2 4 September 2018

MATTERS TO BE DISCUSSED Assignments Format Referencing and plagiarism Exam paper format How to study for the exam

ASSIGNMENTS Access the announcement on myUnisa regarding Assignment 01 guidelines and follow the scientific requirements Format of Assignment 01 (written) Introduction Definition of key concept Suitable headings detailing what is to be discussed Conclusion List of references

REFERENCING & PLAGIARISM Reference sources in-text using the Harvard method e.g. (Bezuidenhout, 2013:6) Rewrite the information in your own words to avoid plagiarism List of references Place sources in alphabetical order

PLAGIARISM Plagiarism occurs where you copy the work word-for-word from the study material (without properly referencing the information or indicating the words taken from the Study Guide/manual by putting them into double inverted commas (quotation marks (e.g. “…….”). The use, word-for-word, of other people’s written work without acknowledging where you got the information from, i.e. passing it off as your own. Literally this in effect means you are ‘stealing’ (the theft of) other people’s words, information or ideas (concepts, theories, research findings). In essence this amounts to academic fraud (passing off information as your own). Not giving credit to someone is as bad as pretending that the relevant ideas are your own. It does not matter where you get information from. Whether you are getting it from a website, a court case, legislation, articles (journals, magazines/newspapers), conference proceedings, books or your study guide – you must ALWAYS give a reference to the relevant source. Failure to do so will be penalised and disciplinary action might be taken against you.

EXAM PAPER FORMAT SECTION A SECTION B 25 MCQs (compulsory) Two 15 mark questions (select either question 1 or question 2) Two 10 mark questions (select either question 3 or question 4)

HOW TO STUDY FOR THE EXAM Make notes as you go through the study guide (prescribed book) Don’t just read – study the content Practice with previous exam papers but do not only learn from these & test yourself Assignment 01 is a good indicator as to what you can expect for the examination Content to focus on: Chapters 1, 3, 4, 9 & Diversion
