New Employee Orientation A few brown bag ideas to feed your inspiration.

Be the enthusiasm you want to see! Ask – Is this something the learner can do for themselves? Games that make a point. B – Inspiration & Passion starts with you – What are you doing to feed your passion? What are you doing to keep yourself inspired? Books on tape, accidental creative, networking meetings (ASTD & Chapter Meetings) in addition do something outside your area of expertise. A – This was one of the greatest pieces of advise I have ever been given regarding training. It is the very thing that caused me to push my creative boundaries. Just because something has always been done a certain way does note mean that we are mandated to continue in that same fashion. If new results are what you need then think in ways that you have never thought. Another rule of thumb I’ve picked up along the way is that we have about a minutes worth of attention per year of age. These days my NEO classes run about 20something as the average. So approximately every 20 minutes I change the way I’m training a subject. G – There is a time and place for everything. NEO is a time of first impressions so it needs to be F.U.N. (friendly, Understanding and Nurturing)

NEO it’s not just a class! The first EVENT with YOUR credit union! Decorations Quotes Puzzles Music Prizes Notes (hand written) I am a firm believer that all classes should be events and it starts with NEO. Everyone structures their NEO a little differently and numbers vary greatly our NEO sessions run 3 days with approximately 20+ employees. Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Class Contract and review at the beginning of the day. Have them tell me “Why” it is important.

Inspiration can be found anywhere… = + + Some of my greatest inspiration moments come from reality TV. While we can’t have tubs of goop and sloop lying around some of the basic concepts can be tweaked in just the right way to meet a need we may have. One crazy matching game!

Window Painting & Table Teaching + + = Recently our handbook was updated and the Friday before my NEO session I was given the new copy. The challenge 30pages to 60pages. Fortunately because I already had sound “tools & tricks” in my trainer toolbox it was a minor adjustment. I approach the handbook from the “Is this something the learner can do for themselves?” or “Is it mandatory that I personally teach this category?” In asking these questions I am able to identify what is the “lighter side” of the handbook so I can turn it into the activity. For the portions I do feel the need to personally teach I may break out props and/or create “characters” to keep it fresh and exciting. ***Drama Improv class.

Why do for the learners…what the learners can do for themselves!

The Dreaded Dress Code ??? + + = I HATED covering dress code! Then one day I looked at a pile of old magazines and said “I can use those…” and we’ve been having a bit of fun ever since.

An activity that makes a point using humor for everyone! After the employees finish the activity I ask 3 debriefing questions: Why is it important that we follow the dress code? How do you feel when someone is not following the dress code? Who cares?

Member Service Standards Meet Gertrude the Rubber Chicken! Gertrude is my favorite!

Closing Moments & Post Class Follow Up Post it notes & questions Heartfelt speech….do you believe that they are an asset…that out of everyone who was interviewed they were the chosen and its great to have them as part of the team? TELL them!

Success is in the B.A.G.!!!
