Figure 1 Schematic of the time scales of events linking mechanical stimulation of Venus flytrap hair cells with different secretory events. Two or more action potentials (AP) lead to rapid trap closure while further APs lead to ionic and later enzymatic secretory events via Ca2+ and JA signalling pathways. The different secretory pathways are associated with particular changes in gene expression (see text for details).
