The Bonus Army

The Bonus Army was a group of WWI veterans demanding compensation Congress had approved a bonus that would be paid to WWI veterans, but it was not to be paid until 1945 Protesters gathered in Washington DC demanding that the bonus be paid immediately When congress chose not to pay the veterans immediately, about 2,000 stayed in Washington to protest President Hoover sent in the army to drive out the protesters using bayonets, fire, and tear gas
