Definitions Active Voice – the verb expresses an action done by its subject Passive Voice – the verb is an action done to its subject

Active vs. Passive (Passive) The road was crossed by the chicken. (Active) The chicken crossed the road.

How would you make these active? The shoe was dropped by Cinderella as she fled the ball.  New styles are worn every year by students.  The painting is immediately noticed by everyone who comes into the house.

Creative Writing Time! For each of the following pictures, write a single sentence describing it. Be sure to use the voice indicated, either active or passive.
