How the Command Is Old 1) The gospel of Christ is rooted in and grows out of everything God did in revealing Himself to humankind from creation until the time of Christ.

How the Command Is Old 2) The message that John was proclaiming to the church in his letter was the same message that the members of the church had heard when the gospel was first preached to them.

How the Command Is New When Christ came into the world, He made God known to humanity in a new and greater way than ever before. The command or message of Christ is new because it creates newness whenever it truly takes root in a person’s life.

How the Command Is New The command is new because of the new depth of love between brothers and sisters in Christ.

Colossians 3:8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

Truth to Take with You We walk in the light when we love our Christian brothers and sisters as Christ loved us.
