D47 Spreading Plates

D47 Spread Background Earth’s plates move very slowly. Even the fastest move less than 10 cm per year. They’ve been moving for millions of years. As a result their motion has changed the surface of the Earth. CHALLENGE QUESTION: What happens when Earth’s plates move apart over time?

D47 Spread Analysis: Date_____ Name_______________ Hour__ Copy and Answer in complete sentences: Pangea began as one continent. There are 7 today. How many do you predict will be In 1000 years (explain)? In 20 million years (explain)? Explain 3 things that can happen as plates spread apart. Number them separately.
