Homemade Ice Cream By Tina Barr

“My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just enjoy the ice cream while it's on your plate” -Thornton Wilder -American playwright & novelist

My I-Search Question What type of milk yields the best overall taste/texture for homemade ice cream?

Goals Increase my knowledge in an unknown area of cooking Explore my creativity in creating new flavors

Overview Brainstorm new and exciting flavor combinations Actual making of the ice cream Reading many different recipes and learning new techniques Hosting a final party for people to test my flavors

Where? Ingredients were purchased mostly at Whole Foods, but also Safeway and Top Foods in Redmond All of the ice cream was made in my kitchen at my home in Redmond

A Close-Up in Ice Cream Making How to make Toasted Marshmallow Ice Cream with Graham Cracker and Chocolate Chunks

1. Make vanilla ice cream base.

2. Turn on the oven’s broiler and toast one bag of marshmallows until golden brown, about 6-7 minutes. 3. In the food processor, blend the ice cream base with the toasted marshmallows.

4. Freeze the ice cream according to machine’s instructions. 5. Chop about 5 graham crackers in different sized pieces and chunks.

6. Chop a Hershey’s bar into small chunks (or use chocolate chips). 7. In a container, layer the ice cream, graham crackers, and chocolate chunks.

8. Allow to freeze for a few hours and enjoy!

Growth Creativity Skills Confidence

The Future I probably won’t enter a career concerning ice cream This will be a fun thing to know how to do with family and friends

Thanks Most of all, thank you to my parents for purchasing the ice cream maker, almost all of my ingredients, and most importantly tasting my ice cream! Thank you to all the family and friends that gave me great advice, ideas, and support. Thank you to Mrs. Monaghan, for always answering my questions and helping all of the Running Start students have a great senior year.
