COM Oasis M4 Lottery Instructions READ THIS BEFORE YOU BEGIN Available to assist you with creating a multi-option schedule, the Scheduling Calendar worksheets can be found on the OSA web page at ‘Scheduling Forms and Calendars” (also on Blackboard) With a completed worksheet in hand, you can begin working in Oasis to enter your preference-choices. There is NO advantage to submitting your preference-choices early, BUT you should allow time to navigate the application.  You will be able to return to the application at any time to make changes until each stage closes. Please refer to the M4 Lottery Schedule & Deadlines calendar.

Cont. Medicine and Pediatric Sub-I have prerequisites.  You must pay particular attention to these course prerequisites when making your selections.  If you fail to fulfill prerequisite requirements for these courses, your slot may be subsequently vacated by OSA.

Cont. It is advisable to request preference-choices, for more than one Elective (subject), for time frames/start dates that you want to schedule rotations in. More options (choices) means a better possibility of being scheduled for the Elective or start date. If you do not include enough preference-choices, you may not be scheduled for a Elective and/or time frame/start date. You can include up to a maximum of 250 preference choices in Oasis for your rank list.

The following instructions will help you navigate through the steps required to enter your preference-choices in Oasis. Log on to Oasis through University Bluestem, using your Netid and password, at https://services.com.uic.edu/studentlottery Select a Year, click on: Enter 2019-2020 With the “Lottery Selections” tab highlighted, click on “Add Course”, from the top menu bar

1. Scroll through the department names and click on the department name you want to add selections for. 2. Click on the Search button 3. To read about the course information, click on the Course Title 3. Click on the Add button, to make date/time selections

1. Scroll through the Search Results 2 1. Scroll through the Search Results 2. Click the add box, next to the selection(s) you would like to add. 3. Click on the ‘Add Selected Courses’, to add those selected items.

Click on the “Add Another Course” button to add another start date/location combinations for another Specialty/course OR click on “Return to Your Schedule” button to rank order your choices.

If you choose to “Add Another Course”, you will return to the “Add Course” menu. Repeat the instructions for adding a course/rotation start date/location combination. Remember to include enough preference-choices in time frames you want to schedule rotations. If you do not include enough choices, you may not be scheduled. Click on “Return to Your Schedule”, after you have finished adding your choices to view your lottery selections.

- Lottery Selection screen includes all of the preference choice selections you have added.

To Re-Order your Preference-Choices: On the lottery selection screen, the current rank order of the course/start date/location combination is highest priority to lowest priority. The order is in increments of 1, where 1 is the highest priority selection. The Drop column provides a way to delete a selection if you change your mind and do not want that selection. Check the selection you want to delete, then click on the “Drop selected” button.

To re-order your preference-choices: - Using Click, Drag and Drop; where you click on a selection and drag and drop it into a new order placement. Click on the ‘Update order’ button, to save your changes

It is recommended that you have multiple preference-selections for the same Course and/or Start Date – however, you will need to make sure that your ORDER accurately reflects your scheduling priority. When you are finished, click Log out, from the top tool bar.

A Quick Guide to the M4 Lottery Logic Maximum Number of Selections The Lottery program takes all students participating in the lottery and randomizes them. It then takes student #1 and takes the first priority selection on the list. Is there an opening for this specific rotation, date and site? If yes, it assigns that opening to student #1. It not, it looks at the next selection on the list (in priority order). This is repeated until student #1 has one course assigned. Once a course is assigned to student #1, the application moves to the next student and repeats this until every student has 1 course assigned. Following the completion of each single selection assignment, all students are re-randomized before assignment selections are repeated. This is repeated until all selections for all students have been processed. If after going through every selection for a student and finding no openings the system will move to the next student without making an assignment for that student. So, it is important to enter enough preference-choices to find a match. Prerequisites Medicine and Pediatric Sub-I have prerequisites. You must pay particular attention to these course prerequisites when making your selections. If you fail to fulfill prerequisite requirements for these courses, your slot may be subsequently vacated by OSA. Maximum Number of Selections You may have up to a maximum of 250 course/start date/locations preference-choices on your rank list.
