ORCUTT MINERAL SOCIETY FIELD TRIP 01/19/2013 Pictures provided by Wes Lingerfelt

This little park is located in the vicinity of Ojai, CA at 11969 Creek Road, Ojai, CA. The Museum is across the street from Camp Comfort.

This is the museum which was a ranger station before it was abandoned by Ventura County.

The Ventura Club was preparing for their annual show in March.

This is the rock cutting room where the large saws are located.

Two large saws are shown in the back of the room.

This one is being cleaned.

Many fascinating fossils are on display.

This is the Board of Directors meeting room.

This is the Lapidary Shop area.

Kathryn Davis was surprised to see us.

John Von Achen reads the identification card for the fossils on display.

The museum is named for a long time member Ray Meisenheimer in memorial.

OMS member Joseph Martinez snaps our photo along with Jim Brace-Thompson, our host.

Silent Auction storage for the up coming show.

The backyard is being constructed to have room for picnics and larger displays outdoors.

Host Jim Brace-Thompson addresses our group.

Jim says wild turkeys and deer are often observed in the trees behind the building.

A work in progress.

The weather was perfect as we had lunch in the park across the street The weather was perfect as we had lunch in the park across the street. The club members are considering holding a tailgate in this park in the future. In my opinion this little museum is a real asset for the Ventura Gem & Mineral Society and any donations to them would be highly appreciated. They have a very active program for kids whether home schooled or in public schools. It is comforting to know that the facility is being run by dedicated rockhounds and fossil lovers and not an academic institution. I hope that anyone wishing to donate any of their collections should sincerely consider this museum.
