Achieving a Task Basic Ideas Know-how Presentation

RSD Facets Embark & Clarify- purpose? Find & Generate- what do we need? Evaluate & Reflect- what do we trust? Organise & Manage- how do we arrange? Analyse & Synthesize- what does it mean? Communicate & Apply- how do we relate?

Assessment & RSD Teaching students how to do an assessment first What the assessment requires How to go about doing it Practice Run Then assess them

Trials & RSD Elements Purpose - what the trial is for What do we need - charges- witnesses- evidence Evaluate & reflect - assessing evidence & admissibility Organise & Manage - set out the case clearly and chronologically Analyse & Synthesize - analysing evidence in submissions Communicate & Apply - presenting the case applying the rules and principles of evidence.

USP Graduate Outcomes & Trials 1. Communication - Presenting the case 2. Creativity - preparing and presenting the case 3. Critical Thinking & - analysis of evidence & admissibility Quantitative Reasoning 4. Ethics - Ethical codes of conduct 5. Pacific Consciousness - applicability of law to the Pacific 6. Professionalism - professional conduct 7. Teamwork - working with colleagues, investigators etc.

Trials & RSD Elements They operate hand in hand at every level of the trial process. One may not be able to survive without the other. We are all using some form of research skills in our courses already.

RSD as Enforcement Agency RSD framework acts very similarly to law enforcement agencies. The law is available however nothing can be achieved if it is not enforced. We all incorporate instructions and exercises for students RSD as a framework in courses encourages staff to use it. Policy- imperative to use it. RSD framework therefore acts as an enforcement agency in ensuring that these skills are incorporated in every course so that the students are developing their skills as they go along learning about the substantive law itself.
