Physical Geography Mountains and desert in West. Mountains and volcanoes in Japan (part of the Ring of Fire). Plains, humid continental and subtropical in East.

Physical Geography Highlands in West and Southwest. Arid in central, semiarid northern central. Humid Continental in northeast (including north Japan, North Korea, and Northeast China). Humid subtropical in East/Southeast China.

Physical Geography Desert and desert scrub in the northwest and west. Mixed forest in northeast. Deciduous forest in east.

Human Geography Chinese Civilization Early Empires dominated societies. One of the earliest civilizations. Birth place of Confucianism and Daoism Helped spread Buddhism.
