wRails Theoretical Track Geometry Data Input & Track Geometry Parameters Measuring System

From the experience and the know-how on design and implementation of advanced tools to be installed on track maintenance machines, AVANTGARDE has developed wRails, a high performant computerized data inputting and recording device which acts as a guidance system of the tamping machines and as track geometry recording system acquiring the track data before and after the tamping process. wRails is a combination of technology and knowledge and its aim is to assist the operator in supervising the working process and its quality.

wRails is compatible with any type of tamping machines and different working systems by editing machine features in the dedicate section. 08-275U 08-32U M84 08-275U 3S Matisa B-40 09-16 wRails

achieving high quality results. wRails Represents an essential tool in rails maintenance and new construction works, achieving high quality results.

wRails hardware architecture is made by a rack control unit in which are installed the electronic boards and a work-station for the data inputing and recording system installed in the front cabin of the tamping machine. wRails is connected to the electronic control unit of the tamping machine and acts as a automatic guiding system, transforming in electric signals the theoretical geometry data of the track. wRails software is made by two (2) independently sections: TGIS “Track Geometry Theoretical Data Input System” which allow to edit the theoretical track geometry data. TGRS “Track Geometry Recording System” which allow to acquire, recording and store the track geometry data. Both, TGIS and TGRS, have been designed to fulfil Customer’s standards and requirement and having the following characteristics:   Easy and comprehensible Multi language User – friendly GUI (Graphical use interface) Precise and accurate Suitable for any tamping machine model Multi function Extremely versatile (allow to manually insert data, load data from file, modify data and save as new file) Graphical section Warning acoustic signal for approaching a point of the track with critical changes (synchronization between machine and track). Error advisor in case of wrong editing

“Track Geometry Input System” TGIS “Track Geometry Input System”

The TGIS is a very useful and performing instrument and represent the automatic guiding system of the tamping machine according to the work progress (actual position of the machine on the track) and allow to correctly perform the tamping operations for rails maintenance works or new constructions, in a smart way. TGIS allow to edit the following track geometry data: Horizontal Alignment: Straight line. Circular curve. Curve Direction. Circular Curve and radius. Super elevation on circular curve and transition curve. Transition curve. Linear curvature for transition. Length for each aforementioned element (straight line, transition curve, circular curve). Vertical Alignment: Slope length and gradient. Radius and length of vertical transition. Change in gradient and difference of the two gradient.

The main functions of the TGIS are: Editing of the theoretical geometry data manually or through loading a digital file of the track data by an external device like a memory sticks or data storage. Automatic guiding system mode which allow the real-time processing of the corrective actions to be performed on the track and high speed data processing and transferring to the machine. Sync control for the manual start of the track data processing, in accordance to the kilometric railway distance and the position of the machine on the track. Management of lifting and lining movements to be performed on the track through loading a digital file, provided by Amberg or GEO trolleys. Table representation for lifting and aligning when it works on absolute base. Retrace and elaborate by data analysis, the track geometry data previously acquired in recording mode by a measuring run with the tamping machine. High storage capacity of track data. Graphical representation and quantitative results expressed in millimetres displayed on the monitor.

Importing track geometry data into TGIS acquired through a measuring run of the tamping machine.

“Track Geometry Recording System” TGRS “Track Geometry Recording System”

When the geometry track data is unknown or not available or wherever is request to check and certify the result of the tamping operation, through a measuring run of the tamping machine, the TGRS acquires and record the data of track geometry parameters and displays them on the monitor. The main functions of the TGRS are: Acquiring the track geometry parameters. Recording all data on PC for on- condition analysis. Displaying in real time diagrams of track geometric parameters. Signal possible residual track anomalies. Comparison between two acquisitions of the same track, in order to evaluate di difference (for example before and after maintenance works). Printing the above-mentioned diagrams (printer as option). Producing in real time a visual and sonorous signal when parameters amplitude overcomes thresholds for defects. Marking events like level crossing, bridges, tunnels etc.

Left and right longitudinal level Versine or radius The TGRS acquires, records and stores the following data of the geometry track parameters: Distance in meters Left and right longitudinal level Versine or radius Superelevation / Cant Gauge ( when specific trolley is available). Twist Working parameters such as left and right squeezing pressure. 15

Display in real time showing the geometry parameters

The TGRS, provide also calculated parameters such as: a) Mean gauge on sliding base: The average value of gauge calculated among the values measured on a distance of 100m. b) Cant deviation: The deviation of the cant calculated among values 5m before and 5m after the point of interest. c) Alignment standard deviation σA: The standard deviation of the alignment values, calculated on a track sections of 200m. d) Longitudinal level standard deviation σL: The standard deviation of the longitudinal level values, calculated on a track sections of 200m. e) Cant standard deviation σXL: The standard deviation of the cant values, calculated on a track sections of 200m. f) Longitudinal level 3-25 m (left/right): The value of the longitudinal level represented in the range of 3-25 m wavelength. g) Longitudinal level 25-70 m (left/right): The value of the longitudinal level represented in the range of 25-70 m wavelength. h) Alignment 3-25 m (left/right): i) Alignment 25-70 m (left/right): The alignment parameters (pos. “h and I” in the above list) are an exception, because of physical limitations of the lining system of the tamping machine. The EN 13484 requires that the alignment is effected on each chord (right and left), while the tamping machine is equipped with a single chord, positioned in the center.

Attention Alarm (Less critical) Maintenance Alarm (Critical) TGIS allow the set – up of safety thresholds by editing the reference minimum and maximum value of the alarm by selecting 3 different «Alarms selections» Alarm settings Attention Alarm (Less critical) Maintenance Alarm (Critical) Critical Alarm (Most restrictive)

TGIS allow the comparison between two (2) acquisitions of the same track (i.e before and after maintenance works) to compare the difference. By loading this data into the TGIS will be provided the proper corrections to the track during the tamping operations.
