Benefits of GAHP Technology applied to Natural Gas Grids Results from real case applications Gianmarco Peretti Sales and Marketing dept. - Regas (Italy) Thursday, the 7 th of June /4, Kuala Lumpur Convention Center

REGAS – Natural Gas Progress Founded in % turnover from 2008 to 2011 Main customers: ENEL, GDF, ENI Turnkey solutions for safer and greener gas networks: Designing, manufacturing and commissioning Market leader in gas odorants distribution Sole activities on gas distribution and renewable energy State-of-the-art technologies through a different point of view Key products: Omnicube: self-adaptive odorant injection system, market-leader in Italy ReCoRD: zero-emission remote device for odorant concentration measurement EMMa: carbon-saver module for cutting gas consumption in pre-heating system

ROBUR – Coscienza Ecologica Founded in 1956 Development, design and manufacturing of high-efficiency, low-enviromental- impact heating systems Robur heating systems, through renewable sources, reduce emission up to 40% and are capable of efficiencies up to 170% Pioneer in GAHP technology: gas heating empowered by renewable sources 7% of turnover in R&D investments 60% of turnover from export Key elements: Innovation drives research and development of high-efficiency cooling and heating products and provides value-added services to satisfy customers, the real employers of Robur The Value of HR involves and motivates every internal and external player Social Responsibility and the Industrial Vocation develop and realize safe, environmentally friendly and energy-efficient products

Regas EMMa – The concept Regas aim was to introduce even into the gas distribution network the idea of sustainability through efficiency and renewable energy One of the most energy-spending process in natural gas network transportation and distribution is pre-heating Thats why Regas developed and launched EMMa on the market With EMMa is now possible to: Lower natural gas consumption – Saves money Lower CO2 emission – Helps saving the Planet Figures speak: Field-test average result – 23,000 hours operating time: -34% natural gas consumption

PRE-HEATING – How does it normally work? Usually located in city-gates, between gas transportation networks and gas distribution networks or final large customers Pre-heating is needed in case of strong pressure drops (higher than bar). Main devices in traditional pre-heating: boilers + heat exchangers + gas thermostats Unintelligent system: on- and off- switching of boilers (with a standard water temperature set-point) is driven by gas temperature This means: No real-time gas temperature control. Fluctuating gas temperature level Heat leakage Natural gas over-consumption Gas flowrate (Nm³/h) Gas temperature (°C)

What exactly is EMMa? EMMa = Energy Multi-variable Master Real-time control unit to get the best performances in pre-heating by reducing natural gas consumption With EMMa, pre-heating becomes a smartly efficient process which results into: Lower natural gas consumption Lower CO2 emission Never forget field-test average result – 23,000 hours operating time: -34% natural gas consumption Gas flowrate (Nm³/h) Gas temperature (°C)

PRE-HEATING – How does it work with EMMa + GAHP technologies? Regas EMMa module constantly analyzes some main values: Gas flow rate Water temperature Gas temperature Seasonal temperature By analyzing the data above, EMMas predictive algorithm sets up the best working configuration for boilers, through a sophisticated real-time control This configuration results in: Instant gas temperature control Maximum heat efficiency Natural gas savings Less CO2 emissions EMMa is equipped with failsafe back-up module: if it blocks, the pre-heating system automatically steps back to standard working system EMMa is also remotely controllable via SCADA

PRE-HEATING – How does it work with EMMa + GAHP technologies? – Part 2 EMMa can have two different types of configurations: EMMa Eco: standalone master, allows retrofitting to existing boilers EMMa Premium: state-of-the-art option, improves efficiency by combining EMMa standalone master from Regas with Gas Absorption Heat Exchanger A-series from Robur Robur Gas Adsorption Heat Pump A Series strongpoint: Leading-edge aerothermal energy utilization technology Single-step energy conversion Temperature working range : -20°C ÷ +50°C Peak efficiencies up to +165% First time ever for GAHP technology on gas networks Suitable on any natural gas pre-heating system with high flow-rates Do you remember the figures? – 23,000 hours operating time: -34% natural gas consumption

EMMa ECO (standalone module) = SMART savings Installation environment parameters: Maximum flow rate: 8000 Nm³/h Inlet pressure: 64 bar Outlet pressure: 4,0 bar Test period: October 19 th – March 14 th (147 days) GAS SAVING PERFORMANCE: around -22% Without EMMaWith EMMa ECO Pre-heating gas consumption coefficient Nm³ pre-heating need per 1000 Nm³ 2,241,74 Total spending coefficient per 1000 Nm³, incl. electricity and gas costs 1,2370,957 CO2 emission savings in test period Total metric tons in 147 days 0,007,90

EMMa PREMIUM + GAHP = HARD savings! Installation environment parameters: Maximum flow rate: 8000 Nm³/h Inlet pressure: 64 bar Outlet pressure: 4,5 bar Test period: June 20 th – March 2 nd (256 days) GAS SAVING PERFORMANCE: around -44% Without EMMaWith EMMa PREMIUM Pre-heating gas consumption coefficient Nm³ pre-heating need per 1000 Nm³ 1,420,80 Total spending coefficient per 1000 Nm³, incl. electricity and gas costs 0,7830,441 CO2 emission savings in test period Total metric tons in 256 days 0,0020,50

EMMa + GAHP - Conclusions Regas = technical and operational know-how on gas networks, control systems and ATEX regulations. Robur = historical brand in high-technology heating system, environmental-aware Regas EMMa = smart real-time gas pre-heating control Robur GAHP A series = renewable aerothermal energy system Regas EMMa + Robur GAHP A = the most efficient gas-saving, environment- friendly technology for gas distribution networks Lower gas consumption = high results in cost cutting policies Lower emissions = less CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the environment Do we still forget something? – 23,000 hours operating time: -34% natural gas consumption
