LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES

OVERVIEW MP # I- OBJECTIVE MP# II- DEFINITION OF TERMS MP# III- ELEVEN PRINCIPLES OF LEADERSHIP

OBJECTIVE To understand the varying degrees of leadership principles which affect the actions of every successful leader.

LEADERSHIP- is an art of influencing and directing people in such a way that will win the obedience ,respect ,confidence and loyal cooperation in achieving common objectives. PRINCIPLES- a comprehensive and fundamental law, doctrine or assumption.

ELEVEN PRINCIPLES OF LEADERSHIP Principle I- BE TECHNICALLY AND TACTICALLY PROFICIENT - know your job thoroughly, you should be competent in all aspects of your duties,whether it is combat operations or technical and administrative aspect.

Principle II- KNOW YOURSELF AND SEEK SELF – IMPROVEMENT - evaluate yourself and recognize your own strengths and weaknesses. Principle III- KNOW YOUR MEN AND LOOK OUT FOR THEIR WELFARE - anticipate and provide for the needs of your men. - look for their moral, mentally, emotionally and physically.

Principle IV- KEEP YOUR MEN INFORMED - by doing this, it encourage initiative, improve teamwork and enhance moral. - give them importance. Principle V- SET THE EXAMPLE - your men will look to you for examples they may follow. Your individual appearance and conduct must bring forth from your subordinate respect, pride and a desire to meet the standards you set.

Principle VI- INSURE THAT THE TASK IS UNGERSTOOD, SUPERVISED AND ACCOMPLISHED - give clear and concise orders. Be sure they are understood. Principle VII- TRAIN YOUR MEN AS A TEAM - as leader it is your duty to develop teamwork through training. - Teamwork is the key to successful operations.

Principle VIII- MAKE SOUND AND TIMELY DECISION -you must have the ability to make a rapid estimate of the situation and arrive at a good decision. Principle IX- DEVELOP A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY IN YOUR SUBORDINATES - delegation of authority, delegate the responsibility.

Principle X- EMPLOY YOUR COMMAND IN ACCORDANCE WITH ITS CAPABILITIES - you must have thorough knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of your command if you employ it properly. Principle XI- SEEK RESPONSIBILITIES AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTION -take initiative in the absence of orders .Seeking responsibility you develop yourself professionally and increase your leadership ability.
