Tips for CDC

Don’t TELL me what you’re going to tell me. Do NOT say: “In this paragraph I will…” “My claim is…” “I will be writing about…” “I think…” NO FIRST PERSON IN THIS PARAGRAPH!

Don’t give me a chart as your assignment. DON’T: C – Victor begins seventh grade as a nervous kid who is worried about the girl he likes. D- On page 214, Victor continually looks for Teresa nervously. C- This means he is struggling with his first day and is worried about how his year will go. DO: Victor begins seventh grade as a nervous kid who is worried about the girl he likes. On page 214, Victor continually looks for Teresa nervously. This shows he is struggling on his first day and is worried about how this year will go.

Don’t LABEL your sections of your paragraph. Do NOT use the following: “My data is…” “This data is…” “The text evidence is…” “My commentary is…” “The data proves…” “The text evidence shows…”

Other things to avoid… DO not color-code your paragraphs or sentences. Just write it in paragraph form. Avoid using “I”. Don’t “talk” to your reader. Don’t use colorful fonts or special formatting.

Setting up your CDC TAB= 5 spaces/indents your paragraph Size 12 font only Black font only Fonts allowed: Times New Roma, Arial, or Calibri ONLY Must have the proper heading Must double-space for ease of reading

A few things to remember: Include page numbers for your text evidence. You must have a minimum of 6 sentences. Your claim needs to restate your question. You must ALWAYS use this format: C D RC
