The Concept Of Length Length is a distance from one end of an object to the other.

Key Words Inch: An inch is a U.S. customary measurement that is used to measure small objects. There are 12 inches in a foot. If you don’t have a ruler, the length from your first to second knuckle on your pointer finger is about an inch. Foot:A foot is a U.S. customary measurement that is used to measure medium objects. If you don’t have a ruler, the length from your knuckles to elbow is about a foot. Mile: A foot is a U.S. customary measurement that is used to measure large distances. A mile is about one and a half kilometers. It is really big.

More Key Words Millimeter: An millimeter is a metric measurement that is used to measure very small objects. It is about the thickness. There are 10 millimeters in a centimeter. Centimeter: An centimeter is a metric measurement that is used to measure small objects. It is about the thickness of your pinky. There are 100 centimeters in a meter. Meter:A meter is a metric measurement that is used to measure medium objects. If you don’t have a ruler, the distance from the floor to your waist. Mile: A mile is a metric measurement that is used to measure long distances. A mile is about 1 and 1/2 kilometers.

Question 1 Ms. Morgan wants to make a garden, outside of her house. The state said that she has 1000 ft to make a garden, she wants a 200 ft squared garden. Should she use a meter stick or a yard stick, justify your answer.

Answer to Question 1 She should use a yard stick, because a yard stick is the same as three feet. She should not use a meter stick, because she would have to convert centimeters into inches, and then inches into feet.

Question 2 Ms. Morgan's neighbor, Iceysis wanted to measure a lacrosse field, he thinks it is as long as a football field. If it is, then how long could it be? What units and tools should Iceysis use to measure?

Answer to question 2 If it is as long as a football field then it is 100 yards long, so Iceysis should use yards or meters to measure it. He would do this with a yard or meter stick. A yard stick would be the best, but he could use a meter stick. He would then have to do conversions of be happy with an estimate!
