What is Dual Enrollment? High school students earn high school and college or vocational credit at the same time.

Dual Enrollment Course Weight Dual enrollment courses are weighted the same as AP, IB and AICE: When your high school calculates your overall weighted high school GPA, and When state universities calculate your high school GPA in the core academic classes for university admission decisions.

Collegiate High School A dual enrollment program for rising 10th or 11th graders whose goal is an Associate in Arts Degree (AA) by high school graduation.

Collegiate High School Participants are expected to: Complete a combination of EFSC & high school classes each year. Continuously maintain program eligibility. Successfully complete all general education requirements. Finish prerequisites for selected university major. Remain on track for AA Degree by graduation.

Associate in Arts Degree Two-year degree for students whose goal is a bachelor’s degree or higher at a university. Equivalent to freshman & sophomore years at a state university. Total of 60 college-level credit hours. Combination of general education and elective courses chosen to meet selected university major prerequisites. Students graduating with an AA degree maintain first time in college benefits at state universities.

EFSC Class Times 10th grade students: EFSC classes (10:50) – (12:05): 1 EFSC class M/W; 1 EFSC class T/Th. Periods 3rd and 4th at the high school. Friday: No EFSC classes – Periods 3rd & 4th at the high school for study, community service, info. –check in at the Media Center. 11th and 12th grade students: EFSC classes at: Beginning and/or end of the school day, or evening. Face to face, online, or hybrid. Friday attendance at the high school NOT required during EFSC class periods.

Bus Transportation Guaranteed for 10th grade participants during Collegiate High School periods. Not available on school holidays (Ex: President’s Day). 11th and 12th grade participants responsible for their own transportation to and from EFSC. (wait list if availability)

Requirements to STAY in the Collegiate High School Program “C” or higher in Gordon Rule classes - designated courses requiring writing skills and math competencies (college algebra or higher) Maintain state cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher. College “Term” GPA of at least 2.0. On track to receive diploma and A.A. Degree at graduation. Qualify for MAC 1105 (College Algebra) before the Fall Term of 12th grade.

Your Pathway to Success in Collegiate High School The courses for your first two years of college are used to meet the requirements of your intended degree at a four-year university. Identify your Intended major in 11th grade along with the course requirements for the major. Identify your Intended university. Identify elective courses intended to meet the major prerequisites. Changing your major “midstream” can prevent your completing the prerequisites by graduation.

How will EFSC staff help you chart your pathway? EFSC Advisors help students: Plan their degree program. Register for classes. Use “myGPS” to track courses toward their degree program. Access academic help and support services. EFSC Career Planning & Development Centers assist students in identifying their major based on career interests and skills. EFSC offers Discover Your Major and Career, a 3-credit elective course. Elective courses, clubs, and seminars in selected careers are available.

Factors to Consider Additional study expectations with college coursework Courses designed for adults – NO modifications and/or adjustments EFSC grades stay on permanent college AND high school transcript Poor grades can impact scholarships and university admission!

Factors to Consider Summer classes may be needed to earn degree by graduation. Balance college, high school and extracurricular demands. Must meet high school and AA degree requirements. Provide own transportation for classes outside school day.

Key Considerations for Parents School counselor is point of contact for parents seeking information about student progress. Parents may not contact instructors for student information. (FERPA) Family is under both high school and EFSC calendars. Family is responsible for transportation when classes for 10th graders meet outside ColHS day or on BPS holidays. Student is responsible to purchase consumables and for s (i.e. workbooks and lab manuals).

Key Considerations for Parents Students are expected to attend class and meet assignment deadlines. The college does NOT have an excused absence policy. Attendance requirements are specified in each course syllabus. Students who will a miss class due to an UNAVOIDABLE conflict should confer with their instructor for possible “make-up” options. Instructor decision is final. Students in extracurricular activities should schedule EFSC classes at times that DON’T conflict with practice, games or performances. Parent and student must attend EFSC ColHS Orientation.

Getting Started! Attend this Collegiate High School Information Session. Submit the Student Interest Form by Feb. 7, 2018. Google PERT and take review practice tests. Review the PERT Study Guide on the EFSC website – www.easternflorida.edu Take the PERT either at your school or EFSC. Meet the minimum scores in Reading & Writing. Meet the minimum GPA requirement.

Then…. Submit your online EFSC Application for Admission and print a copy of the application confirmation. Turn in the EFSC application confirmation and Collegiate High School Student/Parent Agreement to your counselor by the deadline. Attend the EFSC Collegiate High School Orientation with your parent/guardian. Bring your transcript and your proof of acceptance. Complete the Dual Enrollment Registration Form with your counselor. Meet with an EFSC advisor and register for classes.
