What will I be doing this year?

CLASSROOM GUIDELINES Be in your assigned seat and working on the assigned bellwork when the tardy bell rings. Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave. Follow directions the first time they are given. Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity. Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the UHS and Ferndale Public Schools handbooks.

Special Guideline This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this year.

Not Following Guidelines will result in . . . 1st offense- Warning 2nd offense- Parent Notification 3rd offense- Detention-lunch or after school 4th offense- Referral to the office SEVERITY CLAUSE STEPS may be bypassed for severe offenses: Profanity Fighting Property damage (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), Bullying Insubordination

Classroom Procedures Entering Class “Have a great day!” Exiting Class After entering the room, students may not leave without permission. Upon entering, students should go to their assigned seats and prepare for class. Begin working on bellwork Exiting Class The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not start packing up prior to the bell. Students are responsible for cleaning the area around their desks before leaving the room. Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with “Have a great day!”

Classroom Procedures Writing Utensils Being Prepared Students may use a pencil or a pen (blue or black ink) Blue or black ink should be used for formal writing assignments. Typed or computer generated work will be accepted for formal writing assignments Being Prepared Bring required materials each day. (3-ring binder, loose leaf paper, writers notebook, reading materials, assignments, pen and a pencil)

Turning in Papers Pass papers forward If/When you receive a paper, place yours on top and continue passing the stack forward. Person at the front of each section is to place the papers in the bin for the hour.

Classroom Discussions PLEASE participate. I want to hear what you have to say. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

Moving Around the Room Trash Pencil Sharpening Trash will be thrown away when your are dismissed from class. Keep it at your desk until you are dismissed. Pick up all paper around your desk before leaving the room Pencil Sharpening Students are to sharpen pencils upon entering the classroom prior to the tardy bell If your lead breaks and you have no other writing utensil, you may sharpen your pencil ONLY during independent or group work time. YOU MAY NOT SHARPEN DURIN G INSTRUCTION OR DISCUSSION

RESTROOM & WATER Restroom Water Students should use the restroom before class. Students will be allotted four (4) restroom passes per semester for use in extreme emergencies. Passes will not be given during the first/last ten minutes of class. Water a. Students should get water before class or bring water bottles with them.
