TUTORIAL 3

Question 1 Draw the free-body diagram of the beam which supports the 80 kg load and is supported by the pin at A and a cable which wraps around the pulley at D.

Question 2 Determine the horizontal and vertical components of reaction at pin A and force in the cable BC. Neglect the thickness of the members

Question 3 Replace the loading system by an equivalent resultant force and specify where the resultant’s line of action intersects the beam measured from O.

Question 4 Replace the force system acting on the frame by an equivalent resultant force and specify where the resultant line’s of action intersects member BC, measured from point B.

Question 5 Determine the force members AB,BC and EB of the truss. State if the members are in tension or compression. Use joint method of analysis

Question 6 Determine the force members EC,DE and EB of the truss. State if the members are in tension or compression. Use joint method of analysis

Question 7 Determine the force in members BF, AF, and CD of the truss. Indicate whether the members are in tension or compression.
