Presentation transcript:

3. Glue and fold the blank section around the toothpick Earth Layers ( Clay Model ) Prepare the labels for Earth layers 1. Write in different colors, the layer names and compositions on one side, and temperatures on the other side of the strips of paper 2. Leave blank about ½ inch gluing and folding Front Side Back Side Layer Name (Composition) Inner Core (Solid Iron) 4,000 - 5,000 ⁰C Outer Core (Liquid Iron) 3,000 - 4,000 ⁰C Temperature Mantle (Molten rocks) 1,000 – 3,000 ⁰C Crust (Solid rocks) 0 – 1,000 ⁰C 3. Glue and fold the blank section around the toothpick 4. Place the labels off to the side for later use

Earth Layers ( Clay Model ) Teacher will demonstrate each step 1. Inner Core (yellow or red ) Make a sphere (about 1” diameter) For the other layers, take some clay and flatten it (like pizza dough) and make it about ½ inch thick and then wrap it around each layer 2. Outer Core (yellow, red, pink) Wrap around the inner core 3. Mantle (beige or brown) Wrap around the outer core 4. Crust (Blue) Wrap around the mantle 5. Add landforms on top of the crust 6. Cut the entire thing in half to reveal the Earth Layers 7. Insert the toothpick labels into the correct locations About 20 minutes
